Ashton to Lees Sunday 9th December 2018
Short days mean short rides, and so once we had crossed the ring road we left Ashton via tracks to Droylsden and then via the disused railway line to Littlemoss where we picked up the disused Hollinwood Branch Canal. We followed this to Daisy Nook for welcome elevenses.
Passing through Daisy Nook and on to Crime Lake we took a minor road to Bardsley. From there we followed a trail which dropped us steeply to the River Medlock and Park Bridge. We then followed the old railway to Oldham's Alexandra Park, on to Grotton and then to the excellent Village Tea Room at Lees.
After lunch we proceeded via Alt to pick up the old rail trail to Ashton. We left this at Limehurst and dropped back into Daisy Nook Country Park to follow the canal towards the visitor centre. Then it was back in blinding sunshine to Ashton. Thanks to Eric, Grayham, Roger and Alan for your company on a surprisingly sunny day after the heavy rains of Saturday.
