Although somewhat cloudy it didn't prevent our ride being accompanied throughout by bright sunshine on a cold but pleasant day.
Seven riders left the Cow shed after thirty minutes of chat and first class coffee at our meeting place. Brian shot off to get in front of the company, to be able to capture some shots of our approach. Unfortunately this had not be been communicated to the chasing pack who were soon strung out in hot pursuit behind our fast disappearing quarry. Eventually Brian spotted his breathless posse and stopping relieved them of their unnecessary efforts. The rest by now having regrouped we continued at an altogether more leisurely pace, and at regular intervals smiling for our encouraging David Bailey.
We progressed over Moss Field Nature Reserve, where Chris caught us up, having missed us at the start, now we were eight. Joining Route 55 across Dawson Lane without incident and entering an extremely busy Cuerden Valley Park, which is part of the Lostock Valley, where numerous walkers, with even more numerous dogs were, like us, enjoying a day without rain. Leaving the valley we were to cross the A 49 where Geoff driving our support vehicle for the day provided a convenient road block, facilitating our crossing with ease. From the fringe of South Ring Industrial Park and passing B&Q and Burger King we arrived at The Mill @ St. Catherine's Hospice near Lostock Hall. We enjoyed a tasty lunch at a table which our backup driver had reserved for us earlier. Although this sort of support has not been the norm in the RSF it could catch on; be good to have you back on two wheels next week Geoff but thanks, and thanks to Brian for what I anticipate will be some great photos.
Keith.
Thanks for this report Keith, and for leading the ride.
The photos I took can be viewed here on our Flickr account, unfortunately Keith’s anticipation of great photos did not bear fruit; they are, as usual quite mediocre, sorry, Brian.
PS See you all at Barrowford on Saturday next.
