Superb ride around a very scenic part of the Dales, In fine weather excellent views of Penyghent, Never too technical but with enough features to make it interesting and a couple of avoidable challenges. Starting in Clapham and riding up through the well-known (and slippery) tunnels the route makes its way across to Horton in Ribblesdale via green lanes and singletrack. You could carry on but why pass the cafe here when it's in just the right place for a coffee and cake before starting the climb of the Pennine Way?
There is one section that the author has never managed to climb in one go, apart from that the going is easy enough. Descend eventually to High Birkwith and follow the road to the bridleway leading down to the new bridge before climbing to the Ribblehead-Settle road. Straight across takes you over Sulber Nick and a fast but loose blast back to the tunnels.
