An easy 1/2 day loop from Inverdruie near Aviemore around the Rothiemurchus forest and Loch An Eilean. The long stay car park is free and there is a cafe across the road if you are in the mood for a quick brew and snack before setting off. The route is all on wide easy trails with extensive views into Ben Macdui and Braeriach as well as the Cairngorm itself and the Fiacaill ridge (an excellent easy scramble). You coukd extend the ride to circumnavigate Loch An Eileen (watch out fo rthe 14th century castle ruin) and even add in Loch Ghamna although this latter is more singletrack and you will probably need to give way to the odd walking party, worth the effort though. There is a decent cafe at Loch Morlich for second breakfast or quick lunch if you like before following the old logging road back to Inverdruie. Watch for bikes coming the other way as you whizz along as it's mostly downhill and twist and turns quite delightfully through the trees. The only proviso to the route is that there is a bridge with steep steps to climb which might prove interesting for e-bikes |
