From Lake Misurina (pictured left) a metalled road climbs some 580m and 7km to the Rifugio Auronzo (pictured below).
This is Dolomite scenery at its very best.
Pictured behind the Rifugio Auronzo is the Tre Cime di Lavardeo (Drei Zinnen).
This route is signposted 101-104 as far as Comici Hut.
From here a rough road leads to the Rifugio Lavardeo where 500m NE of the hut a mule path leaves the road, soon passing the little Lago di Lavardeo; 500m on fork left (the right fork goes down a cliff), contouring around the magnificent Croda del Passaporto, 2704m.
The terrain soon opens out; the path drops gently, then climbs over a large step to a hanging valley with two small lakes (Lago di Cengia, 2324m) and a 1918 war memorial. The superb Croda dei Toni (Zwölferkofel), 3094m, is in front.
Climb much more steeply, winding up scree to the Passo Fiscalino, 2528m. One can take a stony path, sometimes cut in to the cliff face to the Büllele Joch Hut (pictured below), also at 2528m, then E over a low col to drop more steeply, then roughly, to the Comici hut, 2224.
A stony path, steep at first, drops easily down to a road at 1600m; this is gravelly at first, then metalled from Campo Fiscalino (hotel) to s.Giuseppe (Moso) on the S.S. 52.
The whole of this route is on the first world war Austro-Italian front, and has many relics. At the Büllelejoch there is a cliff-face gun pit, also trenches, tennels and dugouts in the cliffs. Strong nerves are needed in places! The best examples are on the rock ridges due S of the pass.
